We’ve entered a new era with more and more of us continuing to work from home. Whether you run your own business from home, work a few days here and there, or you’ve always been an at-home employee, these top tips to stay healthy are for you. 

1. Cut Distraction 

Easier said than done! A separate office is ideal- one that’s away from the washing and the temptation of the fridge. Because staying healthy at home requires curbing the pantry-raids! 

2. Routine 

Even though you’re working from home doesn’t mean you can slack off. Well, not entirely! Get up at the same time everyday, if you exercise in the morning make sure you get that in, have a healthy breakfast, and get showered and dressed. Hey, you can even dress up if it helps! That way your work day feels important and distinctive from your home life. And your daily activity is out of the way and you don’t have to worry about it after a tiring word day. 

3. Get Moving 

Every hour get our of your seat and move a little. Do a little stretch, dance to a song, run up and down the stairs a few times, or if you can- push-ups and squats for total body fitness. 

4. Stay Hydrated 

Our No. 1 tip for staying hydrated? Keep a pretty water bottle at hand! If your bottle is 700ml, that’s just 2-3 bottles worth to get your daily water needs. Also try herbal tea, diet cordial and fruit infusions to stay healthy when working from home. 

5. Set Breaks 

This one is for the mind and the body! Set a lunch time, and morning and afternoon tea times so you’re not mindlessly snacking, and you give your brain (and eyes) a break. How often do we just get into the zone and get kind of stressed without noticing? A breath and a refresh mean you can return to work with a clear head- and work better. 

6. Healthy Snacks 

Ain’t nobody say they don’t like snacks! Plan out healthy snacks like nuts and seeds, fruit, veggie sticks or crackers with dip, protein bars, and home-baked treats. A lot of people find it easier to stick to a healthy eating plan when their blood sugar and hunger levels are stable over the day. Use your set breaks – and your set breaks only- to eat your snacks. 7. Meal Prep 

So you’re not struggling to cook and/or assemble your healthy lunch during your always-too-short lunch break- have them meal prepped beforehandA top tip to stay healthy is to meal prep for at least a few days, so you have no excuse to get takeaway or munch on that bag of corn chips at the back of the cupboard.  

8. Stretching 

If you’re like many of us and working from a desk- make sure to stretch morning and/or night to relieve stress on your body. Simple stretches like downward dog, figure four, and child’s pose will make sure you stay healthy whilst working from home 

9. Prioritise 

Mental health is important too! If you don’t already, prioritise your daily tasks into how important they are and how urgent they are. Get the most urgent and most important jobs done first then move down the list. This does wonders for making the day go smoothly and keeping you feeling on top of it all. 

10. De-Stress 

We have the utmost appreciation for a good ol’ destress session. Did you know when you feel good you’re more likely to make healthier decisions? Well that kind of makes sense, hey?! So to stay healthy working from home, schedule regular activities to do just for you- colouring in, running, reading, knitting, video games- whatever floats your boat.
